Tao, a former member of the popular group EXO, has made headlines in China with his innovative approach to women’s hygiene products. At the age of 31, Tao, whose real name is Huang Zitao, has launched a new sanitary pad brand called ‘DUOWEI’ and is offering salaries that are five times higher than the national average in China.

Reports indicate that DUOWEI recently put out a job listing seeking individuals who are female-friendly, hold a university degree or higher, and have no specific major requirements. The brand is looking to fill various positions including an e-commerce channel manager, livestream host, product manager, content editor, designer, and head of distribution and sales.

One of the standout roles, the head of distribution and sales, is offering a salary of 30,000 yuan, which is approximately 4,000 USD. This figure is significantly higher than the average monthly wage in China, which stood at around 6,050 yuan in 2023.
Tao’s motivation for venturing into the female hygiene market stemmed from his shock over a CCTV report exposing the reuse of sanitary pads in China. To address this issue, Tao pledged transparency by live-streaming the production process of DUOWEI products 24/7. During the brand’s launch, he distributed 50,000 sample products for free.

While Tao’s initiative has garnered attention and praise, some critics have raised concerns about his intentions. DUOWEI was not a new creation but an existing brand that sold sanitary pads online. There were past criticisms about the quality of DUOWEI products, such as pads and diapers, leading to suspicions that Tao might have taken over a struggling factory and is now rebranding it through aggressive marketing strategies.
Despite the skepticism surrounding DUOWEI’s rebranding, Tao’s foray into the women’s hygiene market reflects a broader trend of celebrities using their platform to address social issues and promote positive change. It also highlights the growing importance of transparency and quality assurance in the hygiene product industry.
Having started his career as a member of EXO in 2012 and later embarking on a solo journey in the Chinese entertainment industry, Tao’s entrepreneurial venture showcases his commitment to making a meaningful impact beyond the realm of music and entertainment.
